An Individualised Living Option (ILO) is a support model provided by the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) for people with disabilities, allowing them to choose and control their living arrangements. It gives individuals the freedom to decide where and how they want to live, with whom they would like to stay (such as a roommate or a host), and what type of support they require to lead a life that suits their personal preferences.

  • SIL provides 24/7 rostered support for individuals living in group homes, while ILO vs Supported Independent Living option ILO offers more independence, allowing participants to live in their own homes or with housemates and receive support tailored to their needs.

When to Opt for an ILO:

  • ILOs are suitable for participants aged 18+ (or 17, if planning for the future) who require at least six hours of support daily and are prepared to make decisions about their living arrangements.
